Ahhhh… the calm after the storm. The storm in this scenario being my launch of The Dark Ruler. If you’ll recall, I released book #3 in my Camilla Crim series at the end of January. Those months leading up to the launch were in a word, cray cray. In addition to the normal launching stuff, I had the busyness of the Holidays to contend with.

Well, we’re now past the holidays and past the launch of The Dark Ruler. So… what now? I have been good and taken a bit of a break this past month. Or, maybe a better way of putting it is, I re-directed my work load. I have done basically zero writing in the Camilla world but it’s not like I’ve just been sitting around. Okay?? There’s been plenty of other book things and life things that have kept me busy.

Philippe sitting on my desk wondering why I’m not writing the next Camilla book…

Whenever I finish a book, I always imagine myself as an earth-dwelling creature that rises to the surface for the first time. It’s like, who are you? What it is this place they call earth?

Since rising from the depth of my book-writing cave, I’ve done a lot of life things. My husband and I are tackling the Whole 30 diet presently. We did it about this time last year and I’m starting to get nervous that this is becoming a tradition… Let me tell you, Whole 30 is TOUGH. No grains. No beans. No sugar. No dairy. No alcohol. No oxygen. No fun. Okay, the last two are an exaggeration, but you get the point.

It hasn’t been all bad though. I sincerely enjoy cooking and I’ve been enjoying whipping up some knew Whole 30 approved meals. If you’ve ever done Whole 30 before, leave me a comment down below and let me know your thoughts!

February seems to have been unofficially dubbed snow month here in central Pennsylvania. Look, I know, if you’re reading this and you live in New England or Canada or somewhere else with a ton of snow, you’re going to think I’m being super pathetic. But seriously, we don’t usually get this much snow in Pennsylvania! It seems like every other day is a snow storm!

Although I’ve managed a few snowy walks around the neighborhood, (Walks keep the creative juices flowing) the weather has mostly pushed us inside for more indoor activities. My husband and I have watched a few good movies, played a game that someone bought us for our wedding (two years ago…) , and we even went to a trampoline park. Yea, it might be mostly for kids but we still had fun.

Exhausted after 10 min of trampoline jumping.

You might have thought that all of my book launching activities were over, but you’d be sorely mistaken. Another accomplishment of this past month was mailing out the various winnings and giveaways from The Dark Ruler launch. It takes some time to receive shipments of the paperback version of my books (Thanks COVID…) so it was almost a month before I could mail out the autographed versions of The Dark Ruler. I also sent out the launch party giveaway which was this awesome bundle that included a bookish candle, Portia’s amulet, stickers, and a signed copy of The Dark Ruler. Speaking of stickers, I also mailed out sticker packs for a little promo I ran before the launch for people who pre-ordered The Dark Ruler.

Sticker packs ready to go out.

At this point, I think I can officially close the book (get it??) on The Dark Ruler launch. I will be starting soon on the next book in the Camilla Crim series, but before I dive headlong into that, I’m actually working on a different writing project. I’m creating a Camilla bible. Yes, you heard that right. A series bible is really just a term to describe an index of all things associated with a book or TV series.

You see, I’ve been writing Camilla books for 10 years now and this whole time I’ve basically just been wingin’ it on some of the series details. Who lives in the town of Billage? Which arm is Camilla’s brand on? What color are Lawrence’s eyes? Things like that. If I don’t remember, I have to go back to my older books and get the info. With the series bible, it will all be collated into one place that I can easily reference. My goal is to get something assembled before I start on the next Camilla book. Yes, it might delay the release of the next book by a little bit, but it will be worth it.

Paperbacks have arrived!

It’s time for me to sign off with thoughts of spring and writing in my future. Hit me up in the comments with your thoughts on Whole 30 or anything else you want to chat about!
