This time last year I had to admit to you (with great regret) that I hadn’t finished 2022 Nanowrimo… BUT this year I can happily report that I did finish! If you don’t follow me on social media then you may have missed my announcement that I officially wrote 50,000 words of The Crimson Witch in the month of November as part of National Novel Writing Month.
It felt SOOO incredibly good to be back to writing every day. Anyone who has ever had a creative passion understands how it feels to LOVE to do the thing, but at the same time find it so hard to do the thing. There’s a famous Ernest Hemingway quote that goes “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.”
I have felt this quote in my heart a lot lately, especially over the last year and a half. Many of you know I’ve struggled in this writing dessert since moving to a new state. My mind was simply elsewhere. But I feel like my old self again, diving deep into Camilla’s world. I’ve had so many epiphanies about The Crimson Witch and awesome scene ideas.
I’ve continued my writing habit into the beginning of December too. Not quite at the breakneck speed of Nanowrimo, but just the other day I was writing and I had such a baller idea about Siourious and how Portia runs her little kingdom. Anyway, I’ll move on before I give away some spoilers!
If you remember from my last post I told you about my word count chain. This is something I have been want to do for YEARS but just never got around to doing. So this time around as I’m writing the next draft of The Crimson Witch, I decided to make this word count chain. Every link is 1,000 words.

So I wanted to share this update picture with you and show you that I’ve cut off almost half of the links already. Wahoo! I encourage you to follow me on my social medias because I do little update videos now and then of me cutting off loops!
I have a serious question for you. Do you find the holiday season stressful? When I was a kid (and teen), Christmas was so fun and so magical. I didn’t have a care in the world! But as I’ve navigated adulthood, I’ve realized how stressful this time of year can be.
It’s partly the financial strain, the gift buying, the traffic, the virus particles floating around at every social event you attend… But it’s also just super busy! As an introvert I can only handle so many social gatherings before I implode.
So, how do you keep your mind in a good place during this time of year? I have learned to pray more and remind myself that things don’t have to be perfect. I also take time to feed my creative side. I’ll usually reserve a book I’m really looking forward to reading for December so I have something to look forward to. I’ll also make sure I have a craft or a painting to work on. Nothing lets my mind wander more than an easy craft.
If you’re looking for some creative outlets to keep you in a good headspace this holiday season, might I suggest a paint-by-numbers kit. I LOVE these and am currently working on one. Perhaps I’ll post a progress pic on my social medias. 😁
Of course, I’m also going to tell you to go read the Camilla Crim series! If you haven’t read it yet, remember that book #1 is 100% FREE in ebook form. And there are 3 other books in the series currently out and read to read!
Prequel: The Faintly Beating Heart
Book #1: The Sacrifice of One FREE eBook!
Book #2: The Bear Gap Rebels
Book #3: The Dark Ruler
I wish you all a blessed and peaceful Christmas and holiday season. I will talk to you in the new year!
